Joel A. Martinez

I am Associate Professor of Philosophy and current Chair of the Philosophy Department at Lewis & Clark College.

I work on Contemporary Ethical Theory, Ancient Greek & Roman Ethics and Applied Ethics. I also have a strong interest in Latin American Philosophy.

Most of my work focuses on Virtue Ethics and Moral Decision-Making. I argue that practical reasoning about who we aspire to be and what kind of lives we aspire to live are incredibly productive ways to approach moral decision-making.
